You'll find the Aeons, like the gods they are named for, but further from reality than mortals can dream. Go out into the Temenos, and you'll find Mark Twain Mark Twaining it up aboard a riverboat, and he'll ask after your Mastigos friend from across the country. In the Oneiros, for example, most goetia are projections of the dreamer's expectation of that person or creature, and react as the dreamer expects (or fears) they will. Some only exist as long as they are needed, while others transform to adapt to deeper astral scenes. Many have independent existences, fully realized selves, and complete self-determination, but quite a few more don't. Something that had been the case in the earlier edition is that goetia are not necessarily real. That's not to say there cannot be overlap between the two species, but spirits typically require a material instance, while goetia easily arise from abstract ideas and information. Spirits react to emotion, being, and nature, while goetia dance to rationality, philosophy, and language. They have essential traits that determine how they behave, but unlike spirits, they reflect human thinking on the things they represent, and often change accordingly. Goetia might be thought of as ideas living a life of their own.
